Warm water tends to break down the fibres which causes fading and damages the fabrics. Cold water preventscolours from bleeding. You should also choose a laundry soap that works well with cold water washes.

Separate Lights from Darks:

Make sure you always separate the dark clothes from the light ones as no matter what you do, dark cloths have a tendency to bleed colour. This bleed, for instance, could turn a bright orange coloured legging into a rusty coloured one or simply faded coloured. Worse, it might spill over to your whites and make them patchy orange. You don’t want that, do you? Always make sure you wash darks with darks and lights with lights.

Use the Correct Setting:

While washing make sure you use the correct soil settings for your washer. If your clothes aren’t too dirty, it is better to not click on the heavy wash option just for the sake of getting your cloths extra clean. By doing so, all you would be doing is putting extra wear and tear on your garment, that would damage it.

Use Vinegar:

Salt Water and Vinegar also works wonders when it comes to colour bleeding. Vinegar works in the same way, and will not leave your laundry with an odour. Just add up to a half cup of vinegar to laundry water, then add detergent and clothing.

Fixing Bleeds:

Even after taking all the precautions, sometimes, garments do bleed colour. There are a few things that can be done to fix the issue. First, do not dry the clothes that have bled. First wash them again in cold water; do not use hot water. If this does not fix the bleeding, soak the article of clothing in either a vinegar or saltwater soak. Add a cup of salt to 2 litres of water. Alternatively, you can also use vinegar, just add a half cup of vinegar to 2-3 litres of cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes. Then, rinse in cold water.
